Become a VA
A freedom career that fits around military life.
You don't have to choose between purpose and flexibility. This is the honest version of what becoming a virtual assistant involves, from someone who started with no experience at all.
Sound familiar?
You've moved again, and the job you'd built didn't come with you.
Every posting means a new CV, a new job hunt, and starting again from the bottom.
That's exactly where I was. Here's what changed it.
You want work that's yours, but it has to fit around deployments, school runs and the next move.
THE JOB, IN PLAIN ENGLISH
So, what does a VA actually do?
A virtual assistant supports businesses remotely. Business owners hand over the tasks that keep them from the work only they can do, and you take care of them from wherever you are.
You don't have to do all of it. You choose the services you offer, based on what you're good at and what you enjoy.
Why it works for military spouses
It moves when you move
Your clients are online, not on base. A new posting means a new address, not a new job hunt.
ADMIN & INBOXESEmail management, diaries, documents, data entry
SOCIAL MEDIA & CONTENTScheduling, repurposing, keeping a brand consistent online
SYSTEMS & WORKFLOWSTemplates, processes and tidy client systems
CLIENT CARE & LAUNCHESClient emails, proposals, invoices, project coordination
WEBSITESUpdates, refreshes and full builds
You set the schedule
Deployments, school runs, a move next month. You plan your work around your life, not the other way round.
It builds instead of resetting
Good clients stay with you from posting to posting, so every move doesn't mean starting from zero.
WHERE I'D START
The ROCKET VA™ Academy
ROCKET VA is the training I did. It gave me the business skills, the tools and the know-how to launch my own VA business, starting from zero experience.
They also run free masterclasses, an honest look at what this career involves. I share the dates on Instagram when they're on.
I'm a ROCKET VA affiliate, so I may earn a commission if you join. I only recommend it because it's how I started.“Each year makes me more grateful (if that's possible!) for being a VA and training with the ROCKET VA™ Academy.”

YOUR QUESTIONS
The things everyone asks me
-
No. I didn't have any VA experience, or a UK job on my CV. Good training covers the skills. The organisation and resourcefulness? Military life has already taught you those.
-
It took me [X months] from starting my training to signing my first client. Yours depends on how much time you can give it, which is exactly what we can map out on a VA chat.
-
I do. Your clients are online, so the work comes with you. The rules on working while posted overseas vary by country and by your situation, so check what applies to your posting before you start.
-
Whatever you're good at and enjoy. Many VAs start with admin and inbox support, then grow into areas like social media, systems or launches. You choose your services.
-
It depends on your services, your hours and your clients, and you set your own rates. For reference, my VA rate is £35 an hour.
-
A laptop, a reliable internet connection and good training. You don't need an office, a business background or years on your CV.
